What is VIP??

VIP (Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide, CAS 37221-79-7) is a 28-amino acid neuropeptide hormone (His-Ser-Asp-Ala-Val-Phe-Thr-Asp-Asn-Tyr-Thr-Arg-Leu-Arg-Lys-Gln-Met-Ala-Val-Lys-Lys-Tyr-Leu-Asn-Ser-Ile-Leu-Asn-NH₂) first isolated from porcine intestine. Molecular formula C₁₄₇H₂₃₇N₄₃O₄₃S, MW 3326.78 g/mol. VIP acts at VPAC1 and VPAC2 receptors (Gs/cAMP) broadly expressed in CNS, lung, gut, immune cells, and vasculature. It is a potent smooth muscle relaxant, bronchodilator, immunomodulator, and circadian pacemaker peptide (via VPAC2 in the SCN) — making it one of the most pleiotropic neuropeptides in research.

Research Applications

VPAC1/VPAC2 Receptor Pharmacology

Gs/cAMP signalling, receptor selectivity profiling, VPAC1 vs. VPAC2 tissue distribution

Immunomodulation

Anti-inflammatory: IL-10/TGF-β induction, IL-6/TNF-α suppression, Treg promotion, macrophage M2 polarisation

Pulmonary Research

Bronchodilation, pulmonary hypertension, airway smooth muscle relaxation, inflammatory lung models

Circadian Biology

SCN VPAC2-mediated circadian pacemaking, VIP neuron interneuron synchronisation, phase-shift studies

GI & Vascular Research

Intestinal smooth muscle relaxation, splanchnic vasodilation, gut hormone secretion, colitis models

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I reconstitute this peptide?
Add 1–2mL bacteriostatic water to the lyophilized vial by directing water down the inner wall of the vial. Swirl gently until the powder fully dissolves — do not shake or vortex. The solution should be clear and colourless. Use immediately or refrigerate at 2–8°C.
How should this peptide be stored?
Store lyophilized peptide vials at −20°C for long-term storage. Once reconstituted, store at 2–8°C (refrigerator) and use within 21–28 days. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles, direct light, and heat exposure.
What purity is this Vesta compound and how is it verified?
All Vesta compounds are tested to ≥99% purity by HPLC peak area analysis on every production batch. Molecular identity is confirmed by mass spectrometry. A Certificate of Analysis (COA) is published on the product page and independently verifiable at verify.janoshik.com using the batch reference number.
