What is Acivir Dt 800mg (ACYCLOVIR)?
First-generation antiviral for herpes simplex (HSV-1, HSV-2), herpes zoster (shingles), chickenpox (varicella), CMV prophylaxis, and EBV infections in immunocompromised patients.
How it Works
Phosphorylated to active triphosphate by viral thymidine kinase — inhibits viral DNA polymerase and acts as chain terminator. Active only in virus-infected cells — highly selective.

Common Side Effects
Generally well tolerated. Nausea, headache, abdominal pain. IV form: renal toxicity (crystalline nephropathy), phlebitis. Rare CNS toxicity in renal impairment.
