Overview
Epithalon at a glance
The peptide was developed by the Khavinson group in St. Petersburg. Early papers examine its effects in Drosophila, rodents and cultured cells, and a recent review summarises this literature.
Because the published work comes from a small number of laboratories, independent verification of the identity and purity of any supplied batch is especially important.
Structure
AEDG has four residues and no unusual modifications. The calculated formula and mass agree with the PubChem record.

Expected values
Mass spectrometry reference
Ions calculated from the monoisotopic mass 390.1387 Da. Use them to check an LC-MS result; for larger peptides the instrument usually reports a deconvoluted mass close to 390.4 Da instead.

Quality
Analytical notes for batch documents
- Short, acidic peptides are very polar and may elute close to the solvent front on reversed-phase columns; check that the HPLC method retains the main peak.
- Counter-ion content is a large share of the powder mass for a peptide of 390 Da.
- No residue in this sequence is especially prone to oxidation or deamidation, so most extra peaks are likely to be synthesis-related impurities or adducts.
- The molecular weight of a vial of powder includes counter-ions and water; the share of the powder that is peptide is the net peptide content.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
What is Epithalon?
Epithalon (Epitalon) is the synthetic tetrapeptide Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly, designed on the basis of epithalamin, a polypeptide extract from the pineal gland.
What is the molecular weight of Epithalon?
Epithalon has the formula C14H22N4O9, an average molecular weight of 390.35 g/mol and a monoisotopic mass of 390.1387 Da. A salt form, a different counter-ion or a metal complex changes the molecular weight printed on a certificate of analysis, so compare like with like.
How can I check the identity of a batch of Epithalon?
Compare the intact mass measured by LC-MS with the expected values on this page, for example [M+Na]+ at m/z 413.1279. Confirm that one main HPLC peak carries that mass and that the batch code on the report matches the vial. The guides on mass spectrometry and on certificates of analysis explain each step.
Which Epithalon products does Vesta list?
Vesta lists 2 products for Epithalon: 10 mg, 50 mg per vial in kits of 10 vials. Prices are shown per kit in US dollars, and shipping is paid by the customer.
